Japan
Tsutsugaki (筒描) is a Japanese technique of resist dyeing that involves drawing rice-paste designs on cloth, dyeing the cloth, and then washing off the paste.
Since the 16th century, tsutsugaki textiles were made to celebrate major events occurring during life, births, weddings, family or village celebrations.
This textile is a wedding top futon decorated with a phoenix perched on a paulownia, auspicious symbol essential to wish long life to the descendants!
