Tawame #6 by Keikou Nishimura
Made by folding ground zelkova (Keyaki wood) on a wheel to a thickness of 0.3 mm, and vermilion lacquer.
A true technical marvel!
Keikou Nishimura (born 1966) is the third generation of a Kyoto family specializing in the art of lacquerware, one foot in the tradition of producing utensils for the tea ceremony, another deliberately rooted in the -guard.
He sculpts his shapes in keyaki wood (Zelkova serrata) which he covers with dozens of layers of polished urushi lacquer.
