Rio Tashiro (born in 1999) is the youngest of the artists presented during our URUSHI exhibition.
Despite his 25 years, he is undoubtedly one of the most promising of his generation. Displaying extraordinary technical mastery, he produces work that is very different from his contemporaries. Combining hair and rough dry lacquer, its Ethos l'Humanité series in geometric form!
The human being has the shape of a Rubik's cube. The polystyrene which forms the core of the work is its skeleton and comes to life under the successive layers of urushi. A being that would take shape through the process of layers of superimposed lacquers.
At the end of the process, the decorations created using different traditional techniques embody the rich history of lacquer.
