Tsunagari “Bonds, Connections”
Nagare-sukashi-gumi, openwork “flowing” construction
Trained at the Traditional Arts Super College of Kyoto and later under Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, Nakamura Emika belongs to the young generation shaped by the Tanabe studio.
In Tsunagari, she uses nagare-sukashi-gumi, an openwork construction in which bamboo lines organize space as if crossed by a current. Madake and rattan trace a supple, nervous trajectory, between solids and voids, tension and release. The title evokes the invisible bonds that connect beings; the work gives them form as a suspended structure, light yet taut, like the memory of a gesture in motion.
